CUU: Drills Porphyry Mineralization at Mineral Mountain
What you need to know:
• CUU reported strong Cu-Mo mineralization within a 279m diamond drill hole interval at its 100%-owned Mineral Mountain project in Arizona.
• President and CEO Elmer Stewart stated that the Cu-Mo grades intersected in the lower portion of the drill hole are comparable to other Laramide-age porphyry deposits in Arizona.
• Mineral Mountain sits ~25km SW of Rio Tinto and BHP’s giant Resolution porphyry Cu-Mo deposit and 20km NE of the Florence copper mine.
• On July 24th, CUU published an updated exploration model for the Sombrero Butte project supporting interpretation for a large, highly evolved porphyry Cu-Mo system.
This morning, Copper Fox Metals Inc. (CUU:TSXV, CPFXF:OTC) reported the results for the lower portion of diamond drill hole DDH MM-02-2025 at its 100%-owned Mineral Mountain porphyry copper project in Arizona, delivering the assays for the 1,394m to 1,697m interval that were pending at the time of our last note (click here, pg. 3) The results confirm significant copper-molybdenum mineralization over the 278.97m interval with grades increasing consistently downhole. Since our last note, Copper Fox has also presented an updated exploration model for its 100%-owned Sombrero Butte porphyry project (July 24) and closed a C$2.6M non-brokered private placement (July 28), both of which we cover on the pages below. We are maintaining our BUY rating and C$1.30/share target price on CUU.
By way of background, Copper Fox completed a two-hole maiden drill program (~2,551m) at Mineral Mountain designed to test the large surface porphyry footprint and the underlying positive chargeability anomaly. The first hole, DDH MM-01-2025 (860.8m), intersected eight intervals of copper-molybdenum mineralization in the outer portion of the system (click here, pg. 3). The second and deeper hole, DDH MM-02-2025, was drilled to a total depth of 1,697.4m, ~1.2km northeast of MM-01. It is the deep assays from this hole that form the basis of today’s release.
The grades strengthened consistently with depth rather than in a single narrow hit, with the lower part of the hole returning a broad zone of copper-molybdenum mineralization that improves toward the bottom, capped by 0.71% Cu over an 8m zone of vein-hosted mineralization, with individual samples reaching as high as 1.48% Cu and 0.31% Mo. This progressive increase in grade, together with a stacking of classic porphyry indicators toward the bottom of the hole such as strengthening alteration and bornite rimming chalcopyrite, is consistent with management's interpretation that the hole vectored toward a higher-grade potassic core at depth and did not reach it. This provides strong support for a follow-up drill program. We provide a breakdown of the intervals on the following page.
