Empire Metals Ltd (AIM:EEE, OTCQX:EPMLF) managing director Shaun Bunn spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the major resource upgrade at the Pitfield titanium project, calling it an "enormous achievement."
Bunn said the updated resource now exceeds 8 billion tonnes, including 350 million tonnes of contained TiO₂, with 374 million tonnes now in the measured category. Moving material into that category boosts geological confidence, including grade continuity, while the ore's near-surface nature supports progress towards mine planning.
The interview also covered processing progress, including a demonstrated route to producing titanium dioxide above 99% purity. Bunn highlighted the purity of both product and ore, noting the absence of adverse elements like uranium and thorium that can affect quality.
Looking ahead, Bunn said process optimisation would be a key focus over the next three to six months, alongside improving the project's cost profile. Empire Metals will also assess how Pitfield can benefit from nearby infrastructure, including wind and solar power, rail and port access.
The longer-term goal is to integrate operations from ore through to finished product at a single location, as the company advances economic studies and mine planning.
